Welcome to our home retrofit journey...

When we moved into our 1930s house, we quickly realised just how draughty, cold and thermally inefficient it was.

The front door, with its single-glazed panels and bad fitting frame, was a major culprit. It allowed cold air to enter & heated hot air to escape. It had no acoustic value so our home was noisy.

So, we decided to take action! We had replaced our leaky, uninsulated front door with a high-performance one. But this wasn’t just about getting a new door- it was the first step in a much bigger transformation, improving our home’s energy efficiency, reducing heat loss and creating a warmer, more comfortable living space.

The forward planning steps we took:

  • replacing the old timber door with a high performance alternative

  • and preparing our entrance area for future home improvements.

We plan to reposition the front door. We will ‘pull it forward’ to the cedar cladding. Glazed side panels with light the enlarged entrance area behind.

Plus, we’ll show our details of following a Fabric First Approach which focuses on upgrading a home’s insulation and airtightness before adding extra heating has helped us cut energy bills, improve comfort and reduce our impact on the planet.

If you’re looking for practical ways to make your home warmer, healthier, and more efficient, you’re in the right place. Let’s get started!
